Monti's tear: towards the vote in February

The Prime Minister is not floating around, he makes clear the responsibilities of the PDL and announces to Napolitano his resignation after the vote on the stability law - Appreciation of Casini and Bersani, while the professor does not exclude entry into politics, observing: "Now I'm freer."

Monti's tear: towards the vote in February

In the end, Mario Monti pulled the plug. He explained to the President of the Republic that, immediately after the approval of the stability law, and thus avoiding recourse to the provisional exercise, he will formalize his resignation. Napolitano, in turn, expressed "understanding" for the decision taken by the prime minister. At this point it seems increasingly probable that he will vote in February, as well as for the regional ones, also for the policies. At the same time, it is by no means excluded that the Prime Minister may also participate personally in the elections. "Now I'm freer," Ferruccio de Bortoli told the editor of Corriere della Sera.

Monti explained to the head of state that Alfano had received "a judgment of categorical distrust of the government and its line of action", with a decision that "harms my person and my government". As can be seen, very firm words that attribute responsibility for what happened entirely to the PDL, to Alfano and implicitly to Berlusconi. Monti had been equally harsh in some statements made in Cannes regarding the dangerous emergence of populist tendencies in Europe and Italy. The Quirinal press release then refers to a further verification to be conducted among the political forces, ascertaining "whether they intend to assume responsibility for provoking the provisional exercise, making the consequences of a government crisis even more serious at European level" .

Monti's was a political move, much more than a technical one, probably unexpected by the President of the Republic himself. Playing in anticipation and refusing a period of floating, the Bocconi professor on the one hand exposed the strategy and the serious responsibility that the PDL has assumed, after the announced return to the field of Berlusconi, and on the other he understand that he is anything but extraneous to the future evolution of the political framework. In the next few days Monti could meet the political forces and civil society who have supported him. Just as it is clear that he remains at the disposal of the Republic, as a guarantee personality, at this point above all political, in the forms and ways that may be determined. Moreover, among the first acts of the new Legislature there will be the choice of the new President of the Republic.

At this point it should be noted that just before the conversation between Monti and Napolitano Luca Cordero di Montezemolo had observed that, without Monti's direct participation, it was more difficult to foresee the formation of a list headed by civil society. Meanwhile, Pd leader Bersani spoke about the Prime Minister's choice of an "act of dignity that we deeply respect", while Casini added that "those who wanted to force Monti to float are now served". Finally, while Maroni and the League rejoice, Alfano confirms the willingness of the pdl to pass the stability law "shortening the time frame".

But yet another signal of friendly fire arrives at Alfano, precisely from the returning Berlusconi. Who, from an area adjacent to the AC Milan changing rooms, first explains that he has returned "to win", then that his return to competing for Palazzo Chigi was an act of responsibility, given that despite in-depth searches, he could not be found no one (“ghe n'è minga”) who was up to Berlusconi in '94. Meanwhile, the Knight dedicates himself to preparing the electoral lists, focusing on the Amazons and on a group of entrepreneurs, such as Briatore and Samorì.
