Sport in Art at the next Cambi auction in Milan

The passion of a Roman collector was born from the theme "Lo Sport nell'Arte" who made the assumption developed in the 30s his own, where sport became the identity of a nation and the representation of power.

The collection, enriched in forty years by numerous works, such as bronzes depicting athletes engaged in various disciplines such as football, horse riding, rugby, bowls, boxing, skating, etc., is very heterogeneous also for the names of the artists, including the Italians Silvio Canevari, Egidio Girelli, Giovanni Manzoni, Emilio Zocchi, and many English and French authors such as Carl August Brasch, John Willis-Good and Hippolyte Joseph Cuvelier.

In addition to the works of sporting subjects, there are numerous bronze statues depicting horses.

The collection also includes paintings with a sports subject, an important large-scale painting from the mid-60s by Renato Guttuso, entitled "The match", which will be sold with an estimate of 30.000-50.000 euros, The figure turned from behind it wants to be the exaltation of the many who play football without going down in history but who work for the team, without being remembered as champions. Guttuso doesn't want to celebrate the ultimate architect of the result, but rather the athletic meaning of the effort, in fact the attention is entirely focused on the tense muscles of the player.

The same auction will also offer a small nucleus of works by Ottorino Mancioli, who graduated in Medicine and Surgery in Rome in 1932 but also carried out the parallel activity of painter and writer in medicine and sport. The study in medicine allowed him to reach and fix the harmony of strength and beauty in his works, arriving to grasp the dynamism of the moment.

Also on Tuesday 24 October, the lots from the Vintage, Jewels and Bijoux catalog will also be available, offering a series of jewels and objects selected for their excellent quality/price ratio.
