Green Italy asks for a bike manager

Green Italy asks for a bike manager

More than thirty organizations have asked the government for an Authority for the sector. The boom of electric bikes for getting around in and out of town.

Appreciating landscapes and natural beauties with all that they express in terms of historical and environmental value can be facilitated by sustainable forms of mobility. Opposite solutions to car or bus rides which have high environmental impacts. Finally, Italians are discovering the pleasure and enjoyment of traveling by bicycle. Getting around the Brenta Dolomites Natural Park, for example, using only two electric wheels has become very easy. Every 30/40 km there are columns that are useful for parking and for resuming the journey without worries. Italy is not all enclosed in the Brenta Park, of course, and this somewhat explains the request for more  30 environmental associations – from Legambiente to Fridays for future, from Alleanza Mobilità dolce to the Kyoto Club – to the government for the establishment of bike manager . A government authority that thinks, organizes, finances and protects cycling throughout the national territory. "Moving on two wheels is a value that is good for people, cities, the economy and the environment, so much so that the ecological transition cannot be separated from the development of sustainable mobility, of which the bicycle is the protagonist", they written. Considering the times of politics and ecological transition projects, the request is also linked to the next contents of the Recovery plan. But one of the most controversial points facing Italy is the insufficiency of facilities for cycling. The number of Mayors who spend on cycle paths, services bike sharing, rental places grew, but the country continues to be behind in the European rankings. Electric bikes are the future and there is no rain on this. While they attract private capital and require public aid, they remain the subject of research and studies to understand where we are headed. The latest report by Motus-E - an organization that brings together the automotive world - says that in 2020 the number of electric charging points in the country went from 13.721 to 19.324. The picture is by no means uniform, because the North is ahead with 57% of installations, the Center and the South follow with 23% and 20%.

« Over the past year there has been a sharp increase in requests for charging points. Fortunately, the Municipalities have understood that they can invest in something concrete for the citizens. The pandemic has contributed to the revaluation of alternative means of transport, but the most important support has come from the contributions disbursed by the State » explains Fabio Toccoli (in the photo), top manager of Bike Facilities. In addition to having placed the Brenta columns, his company was chosen as a partner by the University of Padua and the Sapienza University of Rome, by companies such as Decathlon, Fastweb, Alperia, Ikea. Toccoli aspires to create a network of territorial infrastructures for electric mobility both in natural areas and in metropolitan areas. On the other hand, the "Evvai" project in the Dolomites was born from the collaboration with the tourist structures of the area, after the same entrepreneur, years ago, had created the first Bike Hotel in Garda Trentino.

Riding without worrying about not being able to use the electric potential of the bike is something that the Netherlands, Germany, France and the United Kingdom have solved for some time. We still have to grow. It is quite evident that the Italian authorities, unfortunately, need to be stimulated by those who work in tourism, hospitality and environmental protection. If a connection is created between these realities and Infrastructures, Tourism, Culture we will be able to move more easily in search of panoramas, archaeological sites, exhibitions and museums in a sustainable, light way. And – which never hurts – spending even less.
