Magnum's Italy, 130 images by masters of photography

From 9 May to 22 July 2018, the Diocesan Museum of Milan will host the exhibition THE ITALY OF MAGNUM. From Cartier-Bresson to Paolo Pellegrin. An exhibition that sees 130 images from the most important masters of XNUMXth century photography, which tell the news, history and customs from the post-war period to today.

A true tribute to the journey that Henri Cartier-Bresson made to Italy in the 30s. But also images by Robert Capa who immortalises a country in ruins at the end of the Second World War and others by David Seymour who show us tourists visiting the Sustina chapel in 1947.

But here we are in the 50s with images of Elliott Erwitt which shows us a Rome with its eternal beauties but also contradictions. And no less the photos of Rene Burri with shots at the exhibition that hosted Piacasso's Guernica at Palazzo Reale in Milan in 1953. While Herbert List tells us the "Hollywood on the Tiber", or rather Cinecittà.

The 60s saw the economic boom or unforgettable events such as the triumph of Cassius Clay at the Rome Olympics immortalized by Thomas Hoepker, Bruno Barbey and Erich Lessing.

The 70s with images of Leonard freed they bear witness to social facts such as the referendum on divorce or the asylums of RAymond Depardon with the series on mental asylums, just when the Basaglia law came into force which decreed their closure.

Mass tourism and the Neapolitan Camorra describe the 80s with the great photographs of Martin Parr need  Patrick Zachmann.

Here our times are best told by Alex majoli on Romagna discos, from Thomas Dworzack on the G8 in Genoa, from Peter Marlow about the war in the former Yugoslavia and from Chris Steele Perkins on the "Clericus Cup", the football tournament between religious.

While asking for exposure are the shots of Papa Giovanni's vigil for m Three in St. Peter's Square in Rome by Paul Pellegrin, which closes with an emblematic image of a boat loaded with migrants in the Mediterranean Sea.
