The Italy of campers: if 3 million seem few to you

The summer season officially began on June 21st. Italians begin to think and organize themselves for the holidays trying to find the dream destination that encompasses comfort, beauty and convenience.

More and more travelers are no longer able to give up the attraction represented by the road trip, better if done with all the necessary comforts. In this context, the perfect choice is the camper, which has never gone out of fashion despite the difficult period experienced during the crisis years.

Many consider it a vocation, others a dream (given the purchase and rental costs), but in the collective imagination the camper represents the means by which to travel the world, truly experiencing every scenario and every atmosphere. Often you start by renting one for a short trip then, after falling in love with the vehicle) you go on to buy a used one (prices between 20 and 25 thousand euros according to the data), hoping to be able to switch sooner or later to a brand new camper (from 50 euros upwards).

In Italy, Val d'Elsa represents the so-called caravan valley: a place of concentration from which companies export 83% of their production. Well, based on the data, even the motorhome market has been recovering since 2015. Last year there was a nice +10% of new registrations compared to 2014, while even the used one is starting to catch up.

In our country the number of camper owners continues to rise: the latest estimates speak of around 3 million people while over 2,6 million camper owners arrive in Italy from abroad. Compared to other nations, the Italian peninsula still has a long way to go to adapt to the standards (for example) of France and Germany, places where the number of equipped areas is constantly increasing, unlike what happens in our country in where the attention towards this type of market is still bland. However, perhaps, taking into consideration the latest data, it could be an opportunity for a change: the desire for campers has returned to Italians.
