Palermo-Catania line, Rfi (FS Group): awarded the tender for the Dittaino-Catenanuova section

The tender launched by has ended RFI in June for the construction of the new Catenanuova station and a new route, partly viaduct (about 7 km) and partly tunnel (2,3 km). In detail, the FS Italiane Group company awarded the tender for the executive design and construction of the Dittaino – Catenanuova functional lot, for an amount of over 588 million euros, also financed with funds from the new Palermo-Catania railway connection.

The works were awarded to a group of companies led by Rizzani de Eccher and principals by Manelli Impresa and Sacaim (Principal).

At the end of the works it will be possible to go from Palermo to Catania in less than two hours. In any case, progressive reductions in travel times are envisaged before that date, thanks to the phased activation of the new stretches of line. Furthermore, the planned interventions will guarantee the speeding up of connections and will increase the standards of regularity and punctuality of the trains.
