The importance of being called Silicon, but the Valley remains distant

There is only one Silicon Valley, but all the start-up hubs that are born and flourish have the word Silicon in their name, explicitly declaring the model they are inspired by - A detailed list of new silicone incubators.

The importance of being called Silicon, but the Valley remains distant

Angel List, a structure that specializes in raising capital for start-ups, has 1500 incubators or similar organizations among its members. It is to be imagined that there are quite a few more out of this partial list of angels.

For start-up hubs, Silicon Valley (that of Google, Intel and Steve Jobs) is more than a model or a myth: they want to be the new Siliconia and dethrone the bay that stretches from San Francisco to San Jose . For this reason, the Silicon meme cannot be missing from their denomination, which in itself ignites very few fantasies, but is evidently essential. The Wikipedia page titled "List of places with Silicon names” lists 76 initiatives that have put the word Silicon in their denomination. There are all continents

The best silicones

It may be nice to point out some silicone incubators as Ashwin Seshagiri did in the "New York Times" in an article dated September 12, 2013 entitled In the Spirit of the Valley, It's Silicon This and Silicon That.

Silicon Wadi, Tel-Aviv Israel. Tel Aviv's technological area accompanies the generic Silicon with the Arabic word for "valley" (wadi). It's really true that technology brings cultures together. Wadi has one of the highest concentrations of start-ups in the world. According to Startup Genome, a resource that collects and ranks start-ups, Tel Aviv is second in the world rankings surpassed only by Silicon Valley. Some American multinationals such as Cisco and Microsoft have opened offices in the valley. Waze, a social mapping service, recently bought by Google is based here as is OfPrimeSense, which specializes in 3D mapping, which was bought by Apple. It is said that it is Israel's state of belligerence that stimulates so many technological initiatives, the fact is not comforting but it confirms that many technological innovations are the result of war research.

Silicon Beach, Los Angeles. The area extends from Santa Monica to Venice where some ex-MySpace have given life to a series of flaming start-ups. The star of Silicon Beach is Snapchat which is based near Venice Beach. However, the entire Los Angels area is an important hub that places the city of angels in third place in the ranking of the best start-up incubators in the world. In Los Angeles there is also Hollywood grinding technology.

Silicon Alley New York. One of the most important technology hubs in the world is based in Lower Manhattan, where start-ups specializing in media, finance and content are concentrated. There are heavyweights like Tumblr, Foursquare, BuzzFeed and Double Click. New York has some beautiful cards in hand.

Silicon Roundabout, London. A very strong nascent high-tech industry is taking center stage in the English capital. But this is nothing new for London. Tech activities are concentrated in the eastern part of the city which has taken the name of Tech City, of which Old Street Roundabout is the heart. Among the many start-ups that grind code here, King deserves a mention who created the stickiest game that we-don't-know-how-came-into-his-mind, Candy Crush Saga.

Silicon Alee Berlin. Berlin's high-tech scene is among the liveliest in Europe and even the world. Berlin was Europe's Disneyland for the second half of the 900s and continues to be a place to have fun. The technology hub is located in an area of former East Berlin and many start-ups operate there, lately there has been talk of the Football App which is receiving good capital from Union Square Venture, a New York fund which has also financed Tumblr, Zynga and Twitter.

Silicon Plateau, Bangalore, India. Bangalore is the incredible technological capital of modern India where the name plateau is fitting: giant software services companies such as Wipro (140 employees) or Infosys (160 employees) are based there. Texas Instruments and other American technology companies have a foothold in Bangalore. There is the world's highest concentration of English-speaking developers and engineers as friendly as only an Indian can be. The food isn't bad either. The air, however, leaves something to be desired.

silicon docks, Dublin. In the port area of Dublin stands this brand new hub where the offices of Google, Facebook, Linkedin, Trip Advisor are located. Certainly the beer is excellent and there is no shortage of fun. Above all, the taxes are fair.

The top twenty incubators

Startup Genome, which studies, classifies and assigns start-up ecosystem report cards, has identified the 20 most important hubs in the world and has drawn up a ranking according to the evaluation criteria developed by its experts. Europe places four hubs (London, Paris, Berlin and Moscow). South America did well (with two placements) and Australia with Sydney and Melbourne. Asia is missing a lot, but it will come in force.
