Polls closed in Liguria with the Swg's first instant polls which confirm the great uncertainty of the polls. It's a head to head between the mayor of Genoa Bucci, candidate of the united centre-right for the presidency of the Region, over Andrea Orlando, former minister and candidate of the (almost) broad field that includes various lists, including the Democratic Party, the 5 Star Movement, and the Green Left Alliance.
As expected Bucci has a very slight advantage over Orlando: 46-50% for the first, 45-49% for the second. The other candidates would have collected a total of between 4 and 6% of the votes. Similar indications also come from the first exit polls Opinio-Rai, Bucci 47-51% Orlando 45,5-49,5%
Expectations also indicate a collapse of turnout which should have settled around 46%. The weather alert also had an impact, with the bad weather that hit the region hard over the weekend.
Liguria returned to the polls early after the earthquake triggered by the corruption investigation that led to the resignation of the now ex-president Giovanni Toti. In fact, it is a matter of one key appointment for the majority, who aims to reconfirm himself in Liguria despite the judicial blows suffered, but also for the opposition that would like to take advantage of what happened to return to govern the Region after almost ten years.
Not only that, the Ligurian result is considered an important one test bench in view of the vote in Emilia-Romagna and Umbria on 17-18 November, but also of the subsequent regional elections that will be held in 2025 in Campania, Puglia, Tuscany and Veneto.
