A day of discussion on the theme of new energy warns Italy against the risk of falling behind in Europe. Projects to be implemented.

Hydrogen is good for the manufacturing industry. Spend the 37 billion of the PNRR

Italy cannot do without hydrogen if it wants to support the transition to a new economy. These are the conclusions of the Hydrogen Summit organized by MCE – Mostra Convegno Expocomfort, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano and Anima Confindustria which focused on the progress of Italian projects. First, they must be implemented more quickly and with more conviction. Even with more political courage. Then you have to find the holes in the rules and fix them. At stake are the 37 billion of the Pnrr. The mechanical industry, for example, has a long productive range and cannot be excluded from the use of a low-impact source. In addition to saving activities - when electrolysis will have more accessible costs - the source will be the best ally against pollution and overheating.

Made in Italy: where are we with hydrogen?

Made in Italy has the potential to play a role prominent, which has already emerged on other occasions, behind which there is the money of companies that have already invested in technologies. Alberto Zerbinato, hydrogen referent of the Anima Confindustria Presidency Council, thus illustrates Italy's position: "We are in the starting blocks: now is the time to start real industrialisation, and this can only happen thanks to a investment plan structures at the national level. It is essential that the work of companies does not go to waste and is properly valued, giving life to a real market".

Italian projects are less than 30 compared to 93 implemented by Germany, Spain, Denmark. These are the countries that are candidates to win. The challenge proceeds with the support of governments which, especially after the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, do not intend to remain victims of geopolitical interests. It seems like a difficult prospect, but good will often makes even the most complicated things simple. Italy? It runs the risk of falling behind and it is a risk strongly felt by companies. The main fear is that for maintain productivity levels of manufacturing we refer again to one or two sources. Mistakes not to be repeated even though the industry has benefited from oil and gas. Hydrogen is now the basis of a European plan that aims to affirm the energy independence of individual countries. The technologies are there, but national laws and regulations also need to be harmonized, argue the industrialists of our house. They see in these interventions the stimulus to demand and the growth of the market. The creation of a hydrogen economy, as the economist theorized many years ago Jeremy rifkin, passes from a revolution in the decision-making rooms where not changing is certainly less tiring than all the rest. When the ideas are not clear or have a slow pace in contrast with public statements it is good to consult those who are interested in maintaining jobs and good turnover.
