Book: The Great Hall of Palazzo Vecchio and the Battle of Anghiari by Leonardo da Vinci

Recently published the volume "The Great Hall of Palazzo Vecchio and the Battle of Anghiari by Leonardo Da Vinci. From the architectural configuration to the decorative apparatus edited by Roberta Barsanti, Gianluca Belli, Emanuela Ferretti and Cecilia Frosinini, published by Olschki Publisher.

It recounts the search for the remains of the Battle of Anghiari in the Sala Grande of Palazzo Vecchio - today's Salone dei Cinquecento - which testifies once again to the force of attraction that the figure of Leonardo has been exerting for a long time not only on insiders but also on the general public, assuming characters that sometimes go beyond the confines of a correct historical approach.

The conference La Sala Grande di PalazzoVecchio and Leonardo's paintings, held in December 2016 and of which this volume contains the proceedings, was therefore born from the idea of taking stock of the question following open and interdisciplinary criteria, but firmly anchored to the scientific method and free from any prejudice.

Such a complex study could not overlook the context for which Leonardo's painting was conceived, and therefore the researches were progressively extended to the Sala Grande, the original seat of the Great Council of Savonarola, and to its grounds, occupied by structures and functions that have alternated and overlapped over time. The volume therefore offers a significant advance in knowledge both on Leonardo's disappeared work and on the city's main public building.
