Libya, Renzi candidates Italy for a leading role

Matteo Renzi, speaking at the United Nations, nominated Italy for a key role in the management of the Libyan front. “Italy does not hold back – said the Premier -, which is why it has presented its candidacy for a non-permanent seat with the motto `Building tomorrow's peace´. We are ready to play a leading role in Libya for stabilization assistance and collaboration if the new Libyan government asks us”.

The prime minister spoke of the refugee problem and the Syrian question, recalling the central role of Italy "the first to grasp" the importance of the migrant crisis. Renzi stressed how necessary it is to avoid that "fear" leads to new "walls" between peoples. “Old Europe, born on courage, do not give in to fear. Italy will play her part. The problem is not the numbers, but "fear".
