Libya: our bases to bomb lsis

"The Government is ready to positively evaluate any request for the use of bases and airspace if it were functional to a more rapid and effective conclusion of the operation underway" by the US in Libya against Isis.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense, Roberta Pinotti, during the question time in the Chamber. "The Government believes that the success of the fight aimed at eliminating the ISIS terrorist centers in Libya - continued Pinotti - is of fundamental importance for the security not only of that country, but also of Europe and Italy".

"The activity carried out by the US forces - concluded the minister - develops in full coherence with the United Nations Resolution n. 2259 of 2015 and following a specific request for support formulated by the legitimate Libyan Government for the fight against Isis in the area of Sirte. As is well known, the Libyan local forces - in particular those that have recognized the government of al-Sarraj - are fighting a tough battle to counter ISIS precisely in the Sirte region. It is, however, a contrast carried out with great difficulty and at a high cost, for the government military and the civilian population, in particular due to the lack of capacity for the identification of military targets and for their precision engagement".
