Lebanon and Israel: together in music, but not for the law

Joanna, the Lebanese dancer, who danced with Israeli singer Kobi Fahri, is under accusation. Under the law of your country, it is illegal to have any kind of relationship with Israel. The fault lies with "collaboration with the enemy".

Lebanon and Israel: together in music, but not for the law

In Lebanon they talk about nothing else. Not just gossip but broad political debates are sweeping the country. The cause of the uproar is a video that has been circulating on youtube since yesterday showing a Lebanese dancer, Joanna, in a concert in the south of France with an Israeli heavy metal band called "Orphaned Land".
In this video Kobi Fahri, the Israeli artist, sings in Hebrew while Joanna dances with the Lebanese flag in her hands. Shortly after, the dancer approaches the singer and helps him to place the flag with the six-pointed star next to that of her country.
The reactions and comments to the video have been a mixture of admiration and anger. Some have even denied Joanna's origins, speaking of Jewish roots or even making her a member of the Mossad (Israel's secret services). Others said it should be ashamed to bring the flags of two enemy peoples together. But there was no shortage of voices that encouraged the two artists, praising their courage and their faith in achieving peace.
The two countries have been at war since 2006 and under Lebanese law, it is illegal to have contact with any Israeli. Joanna is currently under indictment for cooperating with the enemy.
