The euro goes down, the spread goes up, banks and stock exchanges suffer

Piazza Affari worsened in the afternoon and closed down by 0,79%, falling to 21.724 points. The downward correction of the banks, which began yesterday, is accentuating and this is sinking the main list. Ubi leaves 3,58% on the ground; Understanding -1,98%; Unicredit -1,86%. However, Juventus is once again in the black jersey, -5,56%, which can't find peace after the defeat against Ajax in the Champions League. The record of 1,7 billion capitalization achieved just ten days ago seems like a distant memory. Male Diasorin -2,33%. Telecom worsens further, -1,7%. The energy sector is also weak, penalized by profit taking after yesterday's gains, Tenaris -2,15%. Eni's profits in the first quarter disappoint, even if the company confirms its 2019 production growth targets. The six-legged dog stock loses 1,57%. The annual prospects instead push Stm, +5,05%, despite a first quarter with declining profits. Atlantia did well, +1,38%; Prismian +1,65%; Buzzi +1,16%.

Wall Street, after an uncertain start, is trying to consolidate or update the previous records and is weighing up new quarterly results such as those of Boeing (+1,14%) and Caterpillar (-2,6%), pending further meetings on tariffs in China next week. The other European markets close in contrast. They are negative Paris -0,28%; Madrid -0,76%; London -0,66%. Frankfurt rose, +0,59%, driven by Wirecard (+8,22%), after the investment of one billion by the Japanese technology giant SoftBank, and by Sap (+12,04%) which presented quarterly profits growing. Fractional earnings in Zurich, +0,24%, with accounts at Credit Swiss (+0,07%) and Novartis (+2,44%).

The euro weakens against the major currencies and continues to suffer against the dollar, falling below 1,12. The Ifo index on German business confidence weighs on the single currency, unexpectedly dropping to 99,2, below expectations of 99,9, yet another sign of a relatively weak economy in the area. Bonds moved little: the yield on the Italian ten-year bond is 2,63%, the spread with the Bund is 263.80 basis points (-0,15%).
Oil takes a breather. Brent -0,03%, 74,49 dollars a barrel. The WTI, 68,87 dollars (-0,68%) retreats with greater conviction after the weekly data on US inventories higher than estimates. Timid leap of gold, around 1277 dollars an ounce (+0,36%).
