Letta: 25% reduction of blue cars needed

25% reduction in blue cars, halving the flight hours of state aircraft and rationalization of costs with respect to service needs. These are the three directives to reduce public spending presented today by Prime Minister Enrico Letta. The goal, as stated by the prime minister himself, is to ensure greater efficiency and reduce privileges.

As regards the service cars of the Prime Minister, they will be reduced by 25%, going from 60 to 44. On state flights, it was decided to sell three aircraft (one Airbus 319 and two Falcon 900), with a saving of 50 million euros, intended for the fire-fighting fleet of the Civil Protection which, by virtue of the cuts, is now reduced to a minimum. Letta underlined how "limiting blue flights is a very strong choice, allocating the funds for the 5000 flight hours cut by allocating resources to the fire-fighting fleet is a choice to meet one of the great problems we have been carrying around for a long time" .

Lastly, with regard to the reimbursement of expenses incurred by personnel on mission, more stringent criteria have been introduced. In particular, it will be mandatory to use cheaper flights and stays. Overtime hours must also be documented.
