Italian premier Enrico Letta commented on the conclusion of negotiations in Germany for the formation of a new coalition government, arguing that it is "a decisive step forward for the European Union". And he added: “It seems to me to be positive news. We need a German government as soon as possible. I hope that the contents of this pact converge with our objective of strengthening the EU”.

Meanwhile, the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, underlined how the promises made to voters during the electoral campaign have been kept thanks to the agreement reached. Promises which concern, Merkel reiterated, solid finances, without new debts, and a solid European Union, which is not a "debt union".

During the night, it is recalled, the German Christian Democrats and Social Democrats caught up a deal for the formation of a government of broad understandings. Two senior conservative exponents, Michael Grosse-Broemer and the prime minister of the Saar land, Annegret Nramp-Karrenbauer, made it known on Twitter. Two months after the elections and a month after the start of negotiations between the two parties, the agreement, if confirmed, will allow them to form a government by Christmas.
