Letizia Moratti awarded in New York by the American-Italian Cancer Foundation which celebrates its 38th anniversary. It is not the first and it will not be the last award that the co-founder of the San Patrignano Foundation, president of the management board of Ubi Banca and president of E4Impactc, a foundation she created herself, receives an award for her philanthropic activities. But this time the recognition of the American-Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF), a non-profit organization in support of cancer research and for the early diagnosis of the disease, has its particular relevance.

In fact, Aicf finances post-doctoral scholarships for talented young Italian scientists doing research in the United States. The foundation also provides free mammograms to uninsured women in New York and has awarded 1980 grants since 472, providing more than 100 women with breast cancer diagnosis and education.

The prize was awarded to Moratti during the annual Gala Dinner of the Italian-American foundation and was presented as recognition of the numerous philanthropic activities she has undertaken, in the presence of Sergio Dompé, president and CEO of Dompè farmaceutici.

Clinical research awards went to Nancy E. Davidson, MD, Senior Vice President of the Clinical Research Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Professor of Medicine and Chief Oncologist of Medical Oncology at the University of Washington and the chair of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

The basic science prize has been awarded to the Italian immunologist Alberto Mantovani, MD, professor at the Humanitas University and scientific director of the Humanitas site in Rozzano.
