Leonardo won the production of the rear section of the Airbus A220 fuselage, the single-aisle regional aircraft from the Toulouse-based manufacturer, recognised for its efficiency and sustainability. The announcement was confirmed by Valerio Moro, the new CEO of Airbus Italy, during a meeting with the press. Leonardo also signed a memorandum of understanding with Edge Group, based in the United Arab Emirates, to form a joint venture, as reported by Il Sole 24 Ore , without giving details.
The awarding by Airbus of the new contract to the Aerostructures Division of the Italian group is part of a program long-term: The regional aircraft has over 2025 orders from more than 900 customers as of the end of April 30, of which over 410 have already been delivered. The intention is to increase production to 14 aircraft per month by 2027, depending on supply chain capacity.
