Leonardo lands in Korea: orders for 5 helicopters

Five new orders for Leonardo-Finmeccanica's AgustaWestland AW169 helicopter, which concluded agreements with the operator Lease Corporation International (Lci) and Helikorea. This was communicated by the group led by Mauro Moretti, underlining that the AW169 "consolidates the presence in the fleet of operators who have already had the opportunity to test its operational excellence and lands for the first time in South Korea".

The Italian company has signed a contract with Helikorea "for two units intended to carry out helicopter rescue missions in South Korea, a country where Leonardo boasts an important presence with around 50 aircraft in service or being delivered for civil and military use such as naval, search and rescue, public order, fire prevention and executive-private transport”. The contract "calls for the delivery of the aircraft by the end of 2016 and includes the option for an additional AW169".

At the Helitech show in Amsterdam, underlines Leonardo-Finmeccanica, the Irish-based company Lease Corporation International (Lci) has also signed a contract for three additional AW169s, “whose delivery is scheduled for mid-2017. This is Lci's second order for this model : the three units add to the five already received by Lci this year, subsequently transferred to various operators and used for ambulance, offshore transport and utility tasks". Another 10 helicopters of the AW139-AW169-AW189 models "will be delivered to LCI by the end of 2016".

Furthermore, in Amsterdam, Leonardo signed “a framework agreement with the British operator Specialist Aviation Services (Sas) for another six AW169s. The aircraft, whose deliveries are expected between 2017 and 2019, will allow SAS to expand its presence in air rescue in the United Kingdom and to enter the offshore market in support of wind energy plants". Thanks to this agreement, the total number of helicopters destined for customers in Great Britain rises to almost 20.
