Leonardo builds new platform for NATO

Leonardo, partner of the industrial team led by Northrop Grumman which supplies the surveillance system for NATO's Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) programme, has been chosen to develop its ALIS Logistic Information System (ALIS).

As part of an international tender, the company was in fact awarded by NAGSMA (NATO Ground Support Management Agency) the contract for the construction of an integrated logistics platform, which will be used by NATO during the entire life cycle of the system, for the management of operational and maintenance services at Sigonella (Syracuse), the main operational base of the programme, as well as at the sites where the mobile bases will be deployed and at the Alliance's logistical support organisations.

In particular, the platform will enable planning, monitoring and management of the supply chain, repair and maintenance activities and field support activities, accounting and inventory control, training and employment of personnel. The platform will also be used for maintenance of basic equipment and configuration of the AGS system, in compliance with flight safety regulations.

Within the NATO AGS programme, Leonardo is also responsible for mission support (Mission Operation Support - MOS) and transportable ground stations (Transportable General Ground Stations - TGGS). The main function of these two components is to acquire data and images from drones for intelligence, processing and analysis purposes. Leonardo also supplies the Wide Band Data Link (WBDL), a system that ensures line-of-sight communication between the ground segment and remotely piloted aircraft.
