Research, growth, innovation and sustainability. They are the fundamental pillars for the country's development, but also the themes at the heart of the initiative #InnovarePerGrow by Leonardo, the leading Italian group in the defence, aerospace and security sectors. Seen in an international context, these are determining factors for the consolidation of the industry and the creation of new opportunities, especially for territories and young people.

The event, which was held on Friday 28 February, in the Pomigliano D'Arco plant, in the province of Naples, has the aim of pursuing a common strategy for the development of the country system, especially in such a delicate moment for Italy.

At the heart of the appointment remains the inauguration of the Aerotech Campus, the center of excellence which will channel the best skills and knowledge on innovative research programs with a high technological profile, with a view to the development on an international scale of the AD&S (Aerospace, Defense and Security) sector of the connected entrepreneurial fabric, of young people and of the reference territories.

The center will deal with the study of new materials and new production processes, promoting the development of innovative technological solutions in line with those of the market. Mainly sustainable solutions, through the development of new materials with low environmental impact and the search for materials with low specific weight in the face of greater elasticity and mechanical resistance. But without overshadowing the digitization applied to production processesessential for the development of next generation manufacturing.

Furthermore, together withUniversity of Naples “Federico II”, the Aerotech Campus will host from March to December 2020, the activities of the Aerotech Academy, an advanced training course in the aerospace sector with an educational program divided into three strands: the core technologies of aerostructures, industry 4.0 and digitization, as well as the challenges for next-generation aircraft. In particular, an interdisciplinary course will be offered, capable of combining advanced research topics with applications of interest to the manufacturing industry, with innovative teaching and learning methods.

An event that saw the participation of leading representatives of the institutions, such as Luigi Di Maio, Stefano Patuanelli, Vincenzo Amendola together with Gianni De Gennaro and Alessandro Profumo, President and CEO of Leonardo, Roberto Cingolani, the Chief Technology and Innovation Officer of the Company and Giancarlo Schisano, Head of Leonardo's Aerostructures Division.
