Among other things, the Italian company was selected to participate in the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) military pilot tender and leads the team that is negotiating the future contract for the modernization of the SAR Cormorant helicopter fleet.

Present for over 50 years in the country, Leonardo contributes every day to the safety of people, infrastructures and economic activities in Canada. The AW101 Cormorant helicopter, used for search and rescue missions, weather and air traffic control radars, integrated communication systems: these are some of Leonardo's technologies and products used by the Canadian armed forces and government agencies . Strengthened by this experience, Leonardo will participate in CANSEC, the international exhibition for defense and security which will be held from 29 to 30 May 2018 in Ottawa. An event that will allow the company to illustrate the results of multi-year collaborations with large, medium and small Canadian companies and its roots in the country with a workforce made up of 400 highly qualified employees, five operating sites and various service centers for helicopters.

Looking to the future, Leonardo's approach to the Canadian market is focused on creating qualified job opportunities and investing in new technologies in aerospace, defense and security, contributing concretely to Canada's economic growth through new business opportunities. The most significant in terms of value and characteristics are undoubtedly the Cormorant Mid-Life Upgrade (CMLU) program for the modernization of the helicopter fleet dedicated to search and rescue and the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program, a complex mix of products and services for training military pilots. In order to coordinate the company's activities in the country, acting as a point of reference for Canadian customers and stakeholders and supporting business development, in line with the business plan, Leonardo Canada was recently established, based in Ottawa.

Chosen as one of the potential suppliers for the FacT program, Leonardo Canada is a candidate to offer the most advantageous solutions thanks to its great experience in training crews both in the fixed wing and rotary wing fields. Leonardo is also leading the definition of the proposal of the group of industrial partners 'Team Cormorant' in response to the requirements of the Cormorant Mid Life Update (CMLU), the details of which can be explored during the visit to the Leonardo Stand. Leonardo also offers Canada technological, industrial and commercial support for future space activities through its stake in NorthStar Earth and Space through the Space Alliance (formed by the Telespazio and Thales Alenia Space joint ventures).

NorthStar is a Montreal-based information services company that is developing the world's most advanced satellite system for monitoring the Earth's environment and Space Situational Awareness. At CANSEC, Leonardo is exhibiting the M-345 trainer with the livery of the Canadian aerobatic team Snowbirds and the TH.119 helicopter. In addition, at the show the company will showcase the M-346 advanced training aircraft, and some advanced airborne systems and sensors, including the Osprey electronically scanned radar, the SAGE electronic surveillance system and the IFF system. In the land and naval sectors, visitors will be able to learn more about the SHINCON naval communication system, Software Defined Radio (SDR), a real revolution in the field of military radio communications.
