Leonardo brings the past and future of air mobility to Expo Dubai

"I believe that the three key themes of this Expo - Opportunity, Sustainability, Mobility - perfectly encapsulate the promises and challenges of aviation that we want to explore in today's event" he explained Valerio Cioffi, general manager of Leonardo during his event “The Flying Society”. “Leonardo, and Italy itself, has been part of the history of flight from the very beginning, with the aim, over the decades, of maintaining the acquired and recognized technological advantage. We therefore have the ambition to remain leaders also in this new era of aviation and we are investing to fulfill this commitment”, concluded Cioffi.

Among the protagonists of this new phase in the history of flight, there is Sheikha Mozah Al Maktoum, first member of the royal family to fly as a qualified commercial pilot for Emirates Airlines and the first woman to be appointed First Lieutenant Pilot in Dubai Police. “It is time to also tell the stories of women who have contributed to aviation, so that the next generation can dream of achieving the same results, drawing inspiration from their legacy,” added the Emirati.

The value and contribution of women in the conquest of the sky, the impact that the new air mobility will have on cities, people and habits are the themes at the heart of this event, as well as the evolution of the roles, skills and training of pilots who operate in increasingly cutting-edge ecosystems and what will be necessary, in the industrial sector, to facilitate sustainable, safe and intelligent use of the skies in the near future.

The general intervened in this regard Luigi Casali, air force: “One of the challenges we are facing and will continue to face in the coming decades is the ability to adapt the selection and training processes to keep up with the progress of the technological ecosystem that is before everyone's eyes. We need a flexible modular system that is capable of rapidly adapting to new technologies and social changes in a youth population that can meet the training requirements of tomorrow. An in-depth analysis of what the role, capabilities and training chain of the future generation will be must become a priority in order to be able to recruit, train and deliver future airmen to our Air Forces”.

But the future of aviation is female. To support the importance of greater inclusion of the female quota in air mobility Nicoletta Iacobacci, global technologies and ethics advisor: “women should play a co-protagonist role in creating a sustainable future. They are fast and determined, practical, collaborative and sagacious. Practicality, empathy, collaboration, respect and determination are required to create a future that is empowered, yet still humane. My message is for girls and women in general: embrace technology and science, because it's not just an opportunity for study and career”. “Today it is their duty, yours, ours”. Then a quote from ECB President Christine Lagarde: “If there had been Lehman Sisters instead of Lehman Brothers, the world could have been very different now”.
