Leonardo: new order for six helicopters in Australia

New order for Leonardo in Australia. The company announced at the 2023 Avalon Air Show, Australia, a new order for a further six AW139 helicopters to three different important local operators: Babcock Australasia (Babcock), RACQ CQ Rescue (CQ Rescue) e Star Flight.

All six helicopters will be delivered from Leonardo's final assembly line to Vergiate. The helicopters will be used in emergency medical service (EMS), search and rescue (SAR) and inter-hospital transport missions. The means will be delivered in 2024 and will enter service in the second half of the year.

Operators in Australia

L'AW139 it has been selected by various operators in Australia over the years and boasts a fleet of over 60 units which today carry out various types of missions. The new order will lead to nine the total fleet of AW139 of Babcock in Australia: in fact, the operator already employs seven helicopters in the country on behalf of Air Ambulance Victoria and RACQ CapRescue. The two AW139s ordered by QC Rescue they will be used in the Mackay region of central Queensland to carry out EMS/SAR missions, on land and in the maritime environment, day and night, in all weather conditions. Star Flight, already in possession of 13 vehicles, however, has ordered two new units that will operate in the south-east and south-west of Queensland, to carry out all types of rescue and recovery missions on land and at sea. The helicopters will enter service at the end of 2024 after the customization activities required for the specific missions.
