Leonardo: new contract in Brazil with Petrobras

Leonardo has signed an important contract with the Brazilian energy giant Petrobras.

The order - obtained through Telespazio Brasil, a subsidiary of Leonardo in the South American country - concerns the satellite monitoring of the Petrobras oil platforms in the Campos basin, north of Rio de Janeiro.

The goal is to detect any oil spills caused by the Brazilian company's hydrocarbon exploration and production activities.

The 14-month contract provides for the supply of approximately 150 images per month obtained from the satellites of the COSMO-SkyMed constellation and specialized technical services guaranteed 24 hours a day.

The more than 50 oil platforms operating in the Campos basin will be monitored by COSMO-SkyMed satellites, ensuring coverage of the entire area and a further 48 critical points every 40 hours.

The signing of the contract was announced on the eve of the opening of LAAD, the exhibition dedicated to defense and security scheduled in Rio de Janeiro from 2 to 5 April.
