Leonardo, new partnership for the C-27J to New Zealand

Leonardo and Northrop Grumman Australia have signed an agreement for the logistical support of the C-27J to be offered to New Zealand. They aim to replace Lockheed's C-130H fleet.

Leonardo and Northrop Grumman Australia (nga) signed today, February 27, 2019, at the Avalon Air Show, a mmemorandum of understanding (Mou) for the logistics support of the C-27J which will be offered to New Zealand.

Leonardo, of which the C-27J is one of the new tactical transport aircraft, and Northrop Grumman Australia, a leading company in logistics support services will present a joint offer aimed at replacing the obsolete fleet Lockheed C-130H.

The C-27J will help the Royal New Zealand Air Force (Rnzaf) to carry out various tactical transport, civil protection, search and rescue and VIP transport missions in difficult operational and environmental scenarios.

Northrop Grumman Australia employs around fifty staff at the base Royal Australian Air Force (Raaf) to provide logistics, engineering, fleet modernization and upgrade services.

The C-27J Spartan is a military tactical transport aircraft capable of operating from short, unprepared airstrips. In addition, it offers unique qualities: robustness, reliability and maneuverability. The Spartan, on the other hand, is capable of carrying out autonomous operations from remote areas and is qualified to perform short take-offs and landings on any type of unprepared runway. The C-27J is in service with some of the world's leading air forces, including the Italian Air Force, the US Army and Coast Guard, and the Australian RAAF.
