Leonardo launches a patent initiative with Mesap

Leonardo and Mesap launch a pilot initiative relating to technology transfer, considered a virtual meeting point between a large company active in the Aerospace, Defense and Security sectors. The new reality will have a patent portfolio which, according to what was communicated by the company led by Alessandro Profumo, will be progressively increasing, and will involve companies that want to innovate.

"Leonardo - the company says - has chosen the Piedmontese Mesap technological hub, dedicated to Smart Products & Smart Manufacturing, to make its patents available, not centered on the core business, and make them accessible to a wide range of users of the Technological Pole network, through a platform, active on the Mesap portal".

The initiative, for the defense company, is part of a broader project that provides for the enhancement of intellectual property aimed at making its technologies available also for applications in sectors other than those of interest to the company.

The company explains that proprietary patents will be shared through licensing.”It is the
case, for example, of a composite material that self-repairs, i.e. capable of blocking the propagation of
micro-cracks in the structure such as to compromise its integrity. Mainly developed for applications
aeronautical, this solution can be used for multifunctional structures with potential for use in all
sectors in which reliability and low specific weight play a central role in the design", says Leonardo.

Polo Mesap, for its part, will offer a service of protection and enhancement of intellectual and industrial property to its members. The Pole will involve 250 companies and associated research organizations, as well as the entire national and international network which includes two national clusters, about ten Italian regional clusters and as many international clusters.
