Leonardo includes superdrones in its training services

Leonardo includes remotely piloted rotary wing systems in its training services, with the aim of offering increasingly complete, safe and effective training. A 360° service, given that drones are increasingly used in civil protection operations in emergencies, such as the one we are experiencing now.

The company has recently obtained from ENAC (the National Authority for Civil Aviation) the Certification of Authorized Training Organization for light and very light category drones (up to 25kg) at its Training Academy based in Sesto in Sesto Calende, in the province of Varese, where pilots and maintenance technicians of customers of its helicopters are trained.

This Authorization further increases the quality and versatility of the training services provided by Leonardo, the first manufacturer in the world to now also offer this type of training service for drones of these categories. This certification is expected to be implemented by EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) next year.

Furthermore, the addition of this new service allows the company to respond to the evolution of the requests of the helicopter market, in particular from those customers who are increasing the use of small drones for their missions, including those relating to civil protection operations and in response to major emergencies.

In addition, the global high-tech company is also developing a comprehensive training package for its remotely piloted helicopter 200kg AWHERO. This new product was successfully employed in maritime surveillance demonstration activities, at the end of 2019, within the European initiative OCEAN 2020, in the Mediterranean Sea.

For this reason, the training program will be a good opportunity to propose solutions that are already available for helicopter pilots, thanks to the consolidated and rapidly evolving experience that Leonardo has demonstrated towards customers all over the world with its Training Academies and Centers of Training, in terms of technologies and simulation. Among the services available there is also a mission planning system, created on the basis of the “Leonardo SkyFlight” system, an additional operational service for AWHERO.
