Leonardo: 300 million contract with the Air Force

A 300 million euro contract with the Italian Air Force. The company led by Alessandro Profumo active in the defense sector has signed an agreement with the Directorate of Aeronautical Armaments and Airworthiness of the Ministry of Defence. The agreement provides for Leonardo to supply the second lot of the integrated training system based on the M-345 HET (High Efficiency Trainer) aircraft.

In detail, the agreement establishes that the company will be responsible for the supply of 13 aircraft, ground training and simulation systems and logistical support for a period of five years, receiving a total consideration of 300 million euros.

Alessandro Profumo, CEO of Leonardo said: "The signing of this additional contract for the M-345 is the result of a constructive dialogue between the industry and the Ministry of Defense which led to the definition of needs and the identification of the best technological solution. As announced in our industrial plan, we are developing the training sector both in terms of platforms and ground systems, and in terms of services. Thanks to the fruitful collaboration with the Defense and the progressive introduction of the M-345, Italy will be able to count on a very advanced international flight training school for military pilots”.

“The M-345, thanks to its performance and the advanced integrated training system, will allow the Air Force a significant improvement in training effectiveness, greater efficiency and a reduction in operating costs. The new aircraft, whose first delivery is scheduled for 2020, will integrate the fleet of eighteen M-346s used for the advanced phase of training of Air Force pilots at the Galatina Air Force base (Lecce). Military”, commented Lucio Valerio Cioffi, head of Leonardo's Aircraft Division.

After the announcement, Leonardo shares rose by 1,5% at 10,815 euros in Piazza Affari.
