Leonardo: orders for two helicopters in Chile

Leonardo has announced that two civil helicopters will be delivered to private customers in Chile by the beginning of 2019, adding to a fleet of more than twenty units currently in service in the country.

The deliveries will concern in detail a single-engine AW119Kx in VIP configuration, arriving in the South American country in the fourth quarter of this year, and the first new AW109 Trekker light twin-engine helicopter for the Chilean market and in utility configuration, to enter service in the first quarter 2019.

“The AW109 Trekker – says Leonardo in a note – maintains the typical characteristics of another highly successful product, the AW109 Grand, in particular the structure, the large cabin and performance at the top of the category, while offering greater load capacity at competitive costs and is the ideal solution to meet the stringent Chilean requirements in terms of capacity, operating costs and particular environmental conditions, especially at high altitudes”.

At a general level, Leonardo's helicopter models present in Chile today include the AW119, AW109, AW139 and W-3A Sokol used for VIP/corporate transport, firefighting, public safety and utility tasks.

“With over 400 helicopters present today in Latin America, Leonardo is one of the major players in the rotary wing sector in the region and for a wide range of operational applications such as naval tasks, public order and security, air ambulance, search and rescue, firefighting, civil protection, utilities, VIP/corporate and government transport, offshore transport”, explains the company.
