Leonardo: 3 billion deal in Qatar

Leonardo has signed an agreement in Qatar worth over 3 billion euros with the NHI consortium, of which the group led by Alessandro Profumo is prime contractor.

The sum of the entire contract will be divided among the various industries participating in the European consortium that produces the helicopter, the result of cooperation between Germany, Holland, France and Italy. The share due to Leonardo is estimated at around 40% of the value, around 1 billion and 200 million euros.

The Ministry of Defense of Qatar has in fact announced at the DIMDEX Exhibition underway in Doha the signing of a contract for the purchase of 28 helicopters NH90 medium multi-purpose twin-engine aircraft. The order includes 16 NH90 TTH for land operations, 12 NH90 NFH for naval missions and a complete package of support, maintenance, training and infrastructure interventions. Leonrdo did not exclude that the program could be further expanded in the future with the addition of another 12 units.

The acronym arrived in the presence of the Italian defense minister, Roberta Pinotti, and Leonardo's managing director, Alessandro Profumo.

The company will also be responsible for the final assembly and delivery of the 12 naval NH90 NFHs from its Venice-Tessera facility, together with the provision of an eight-year training and support service package for crews and technicians.

During DIMDEX 2018, one of the main events in the defense sector in the Middle East, the agreement was also announced between Fincantieri and Barzan Holdings, a company 100% controlled by the Qatari Ministry of Defense and responsible for enhancing capabilities soldiers of the state armed forces.

It is a letter of intent to study possible forms of collaboration in the areas of coastal surveillance, through the application of new technologies and innovative services.
