Lego, the lockdown makes sales and profit soar

Do children not go to school and stay home for several months due to the restrictive measures adopted across the planet? Somehow you have to entertain them. And it might as well do it with constructive and intelligent games. It is therefore no coincidence that Lego, the legendary Danish brand of interlocking bricks, saw its accounts grow by double digits in the first half of 2020, the one characterized by the Covid emergency. Sales grew 14%; turnover increased by 7% to DKK 15,7 billion compared to the same period of 2019; operating profit grew 11% to DKK 3,9 billion by investing in key long-term growth initiatives; free cash flow is around 4,1 billion Danish crowns.

But most importantly, explains a note from the group, market share has grown in its main market groups, including the Americas, Western Europe, Asia Pacific and China. Sales increased despite the closure of production plants ordered by government authorities in Mexico and China: Lego consequently organized itself by investing in shipping. “The excellent results – he commented the CEO of the Lego Group, Niels B. Christiansen – were made possible thanks to the work of our incredible team. When COVID-19 forced us to close stores and offices, our colleagues did everything possible to work safely and bring play to children and families around the world. I would like to thank them for their tremendous input and for their continued fantastic efforts."
