Electoral law, Senate approves Italicum

It was in Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's plans and so it was: the new electoral law, the so-called Italicum, was approved in the Senate before the match for the new President of the Republic, which will formally begin on Friday. The Italicum passed the Senate vote today, passing with 184 votes in favor and 66 against: therefore, one of the most delicate weeks of Renzi's mandate begins in the best possible way for the government.

This despite the tensions before the final vote, from which the minority of the Democratic Party abstained. The oppositions have in fact contested lively at Palazzo Madama: the major criticisms have been leveled by Roberto Calderoli, Vito Crimi and Loredana De Petris, because, according to them, the formal coordination would intervene on the contents of the text. Gotor and the other senators from the Pd minority did not participate in the vote.
