Electoral law, Renzi to the Democratic Party: "Yes to the German model"

The secretary of the Democratic Party confirmed the choice of the German model to the management, in agreement with Forza Italia, M5S, the Italian Left and the Lega, and the rapid approval of the new law: "Definitive yes by 7 July".

“We have chosen the path of responsibility. The choice of the German model leads to a parliamentary reconciliation and leads the country to a fundamental step such as the electoral one without forcing". Thus the secretary Matteo Renzi confirmed to the Pd leadership the intention to proceed at a brisk pace with the new electoral law, on the German model as had already emerged on Monday.

There is an agreement with the other major parliamentary forces and approval will be quick, as confirmed by the former prime minister to the Democratic Party audience: “We will vote within the first week of July. Is it my electoral law? Is that what we prefer? No it is not. After the defeat in the referendum, President Mattarella urged Parliament to deal with the electoral law and for serious parties, the appeals of the Head of State are commitments to be taken seriously. The political forces that supported the No in the referendum have come up with a proposal. There is a convergence of Forza Italia, M5S, the Italian Left and the Lega around a system inspired by the German system: proportional with 5% threshold, with the name written on the form. Either it's done in early July or it's not done anymore ”, Renzi reiterated.

Renzi also replied to the minorities, both to that represented by Andrea Orlando and to that headed by Michele Emiliano (both, today's news, will not be represented in the secretariat), who said they were against the German formula, adopted in agreement with Forza Italia, and especially early elections (in particular Orlando and 31 senators are against): “Stop talking about the Renzi-Berlusconi mix-up. It's not even funny anymore.". For its part, Forza Italia, in the afternoon, had already confirmed the agreement through the words of Renato Brunetta: "The agreement between the Democratic Party and Forza Italia on the electoral law does not only concern the contents but also the times of approval, with the arrival in the chamber of the Chamber on June 5 and the yes of the Senate within the first week of July”.

On the occasion of the leadership Renzi also cleared the digitization of the Democratic Party: “From tomorrow the Bob app will be available, the first part of the Bob project. Always a daily appointment will start tomorrow which will be broadcast live on video at nine, every day, in which a leader of the Democratic Party - tomorrow it will be me - will take stock of the political situation and a small press review. From Monday 5 June, on the other hand, we will have a daily appointment with 'insights on the terrace', the first will be on safety and will be animated by Marco Minniti”. Andrea Rossi, the new head of Organization of the Democratic Party, has proposed Imola as the site of the 2017 National Unity Day.

“Thanks to Paolo Gentiloni – Renzi also said – for the work he is doing. Supporting the government means supporting ourselves, period. The discussion on the date of the vote does not belong to us. We are not making the electoral law because we are impatient to go and vote but because it is in the country's interest to make it nowotherwise it won't be done anymore. We do not want to defend the right of veto of small parties, but the right of citizens to vote". “The Pope's words tell us that it is the work, not the subsidy, that we have to work on. When incentives and bonuses produce 740 jobs, it means they work".
