Electoral law, today the last call

If an agreement is not signed by today, there will no longer be the material time for the necessary parliamentary steps before the Christmas break - Bersani: "We will not put Italy on an adventure by stripping it of all governability" - Casini opens: "D' agreement with the 10% premium to the relative majority party”.

Electoral law, today the last call

Today or never. If in the next few hours the parties do not find an agreement on the new electoral law, we will probably vote with the much reviled Porcellum in the political elections next spring. The question is primarily of a technical nature. If an agreement is not signed by today, there will no longer be material time for the necessary parliamentary steps before the Christmas break (in committee and in the House, both in the House and in the Senate).

The 42,5% threshold to access the majority bonus approved in the Senate committee does not satisfy the secretary of the Democratic Party at all, Pier Luigi Bersani, which was clear on Saturday: “If governance is not guaranteed, we will get in the way. Behind this reform there is a clever logic of 'Samson and all the Philistines die', but I am confident that it can be improved”. Bersani then explained that the Democratic Party will not vote in favor if the reform does not include a prize for the leading party.

Yesterday the democratic secretary then reiterated that he did not want to “put Italy into an adventure by depriving it of any possible governance, perhaps by those same forces that handed us the Porcellum. Anyone who describes us as an isolated force in this regard shows that they do not understand public opinion."

Partial openness to Bersani's proposals from the UDC leader, Pier Ferdinando Casini: “Bersani wants a 10% bonus for the relative majority party. We agreed before, we agree today, we'll agree tomorrow. In reality, however, Saturday's debate demonstrated that many think of a center that must be subordinate and vassal of the left: it doesn't exist".
