Electoral law: the Chamber rejects preferences by 35 votes, green light for prizes and thresholds

The amendment that inserted it in the Italicum does not pass by just 35 votes preference vote. The rejection of the Chamber came with 299 deputies against and 264 in favour. Only one abstention. Blocked lists will therefore be foreseen in the Italicum.

The same assembly, after yesterday rejecting the pink quote, instead approved this morning the amendment proposed by the commission and on which the agreement between Renzi and Silvio Berlusconi is based. The provision includes the new ones in the bill under discussion thresholds: The barrage electoral rate at 4,5% for coalition parties, 8% for non-coalition parties and 12% for coalitions.

Furthermore, the amendment sets at 37% the level of consensus that a coalition must obtain in order to have the majority premium, equal to 15% of the extra seats. In the event of failure to reach the quorum, the two coalitions with the most votes will go to the ballot.

In the meantime, work continues in Montecitorio to try to approve the text of the new electoral law by today.

"I ask you, as Pd, to close today on the electoral law, or this will fall on us - said the premier Matteo Renzi to the deputies of his own party –. If someone doesn't want to vote today, he'll have to explain why out there. We will talk about it again in the Senate, about quotas and more”.

In general, the Prime Minister believes that "there is no need to maintain a pact with Berlusconi on Italicum, but a deep, clear and clear commitment that we have made as a party".
