Electoral law, it's time for snipers. The Democratic Party: the reform is dead

In the Chamber at Montecitorio, the snipers approved a (minor) amendment on which the contrary opinion of the rapporteur Emanuele Fiano (Pd) had arrived, who ruled: "The reform is dead and the 5 Stars killed it, here is the proof" – Berlusconi: "The Pd insists, we need to go to quick elections".

One more twist on the new electoral law. Thanks to the secret ballot, the Chamber today approved an amendment on which the rapporteur Emanuele Fiano (Pd) had given a contrary opinion. At this point there is an increased risk that the agreement between the four leaders of the Pd, M5s, Forza Italia and Lega will fail. Fiano has no doubts: "The electoral law is dead, and the 5 Stars killed it".

Matteo Renzi's party has asked to suspend the examination in the Chamber and to return the text to committee to verify the political stability of the agreement on a German-style voting system.

Yesterday some amendments to the text that came out of the agreement in committee were approved support of a large number of snipers, even without being approved by the classroom. And the M5s has therefore decided to submit to an online referendum among his writings the text that will be approved by Montecitorio.

The amendment passed this morning, relating to the voting system in Trentino-Alto Adige, had been presented by Forza Italia deputy Michela Biancofiore, despite the contrary opinion of her own party.

The M5S, on the other hand, expressed its favour, and this has provoked protests from the Democratic Party, which has asked to suspend the work. The 5 Star Movement in turn accused the Pd leaders of not being "able to hold the party", given that there are about 300 democratic deputies and presumably more than one voted in favor of the amendment.

“The traitors were the M5s, here is the proof,” replied Fiano, who then published a photo of the scoreboard with the votes that became obvious by mistake. The plan of the pentastellati to demonstrate their loyalty by filming the vote is useless.

“I think that elections without a homogeneous and adequate electoral law are very difficult, even in the face of the current political crisis”. This was declared by the leader of Forza Italia, Silvio Berlusconi, hoping that the tussle that occurred in the Chamber "does not slow down the progress" of the measure. "It is now up to the political forces from which that agreement was born, first of all the Democratic Party, to continue on the only path that allows quick elections," he added.
