Lega: "In the Dl development stop climbing", but the Government says no

Avoid the risk of takeovers towards strategic companies by giving the Treasury the opportunity to oppose it. This is what the League is asking for, but the hypothesis was immediately stopped in the bud by the Government. It happens in the House Budget Committee, where Undersecretary Alberto Giorgetti points out that such an occurrence is contrary to Community law. The question was raised by the Northern League deputies Massimo Polledri and Massimo Bitonci, with a question in which they asked for the inclusion in the next Government decree on development "a rule which provides that any sale of equity investments in the capital of companies of national interest must be notified to the Ministry of the Economy”, which would then have “the right to oppose such operations if it deems that they are prejudicial to national interests”.

The intent was to prevent companies like Edison from passing into foreign hands. However, the undersecretary's response debunked Northern League expectations. Giorgetti in fact recalled the establishment "of the joint-stock company called Fondo Strategico Italiano (FSI), whose mission is to acquire shareholdings, usually minority interests, in companies that fall within strategic sectors". "The attribution to the Ministry of the Economy of a power of subsequent opposition - added Giorgetti - to be exercised in relation to each single operation carried out by the FSI company would be inconsistent with EU legislation".

Giorgetti explained that the power that would be attributed to the Ministry of the Economy, "recognized in a ministerial decree or in a legal provision, would jeopardize the private and entrepreneurial nature of the initiative with consequent negative repercussions in terms of the potential consolidation of the company. strategy in the public administration sector according to Eurostat criteria and compatibility with state aid regulations". An answer that did not convince the Carroccio deputies. Polledri has in fact made it known that the League will bring the matter to the attention of the Chamber of Deputies next week.
