League of thieves: the eclipse of Bossi marks the end of an era

The resignation of the Senatur, after the scandal that made the thieving League cry out and after the crisis of the Berlusconi government, mark the end of an era and perhaps pave the way for the Third Pole takeover bid on what remains of the centre-right – Triumvirate Maroni-Calderoli-Dal Lago to steer the Carroccio up to the Congress

League of thieves: the eclipse of Bossi marks the end of an era

The most politically centered headline to comment on the crisis of the League and the resignation of its boss was done by "Il Giornale" on its online site: "Bossi has resigned, an era is over". There is no doubt that the end of the era brings to mind the sunset, decline or at least the obfuscation of the other leader of the Italian right: Silvio Berlusconi. Because for better or for worse, from the entry into the field of the president of Medaset to the fall of the last centre-right government, Italian politics has revolved around this combination. Both when, sending the first Berlusconi government into crisis, Bossi brought about the famous turnaround, as when the two got back together and dominated the political stage for several years. Nor is it a coincidence that in recent days Berlusconi has shown much more solidarity with the head of the Carroccio than many leaders of via Bellerio showed him.

Of course this is a general political picture. For the rest, the "pochade" climate that accompanied the Northern League convulsions of these days remains. A leader who claimed not to be aware (and it is said that there is not a hint of truth) of the uncommendable deeds of his family members (son Renzo in the lead) and of that cart of Thespis which goes by the name of magic circle , a treasurer ex bouncer, who partly blackmailed the boss to try to stay in his post and partly tried (with very little success) to defend his work. All while embarrassing telephone interceptions and contents of folders spread, such as to make the main protagonists of the Tangentopoli of the first Republic pale.

And equally embarrassing for the League and its militants were the latest moves of the maximum leader: yesterday Bossi arrived in via Bellerio boldly promising that he would appoint the new treasurer and cut off the heads of any traitors. All while small groups of militants praised his name. Then shortly after things ended with the announcement of irrevocable resignation from the secretariat, naturally for the good of the League and with the simultaneous indication of his name for the presidency. Leading the Carroccio up to the Congress will be a triumvirate: Maroni, Calderoli and Dal Lago. All indicate Maroni as the future secretary after the Congress, even if the Venetians let it be known that they are for Luca Zaia.

Confusion is high in the League and it is not certain whether the triumvirate will be able to steer it well up to the congressional meetings. In the middle are the administrative elections, with the good mayor Tosi who is at the forefront of seeking reconfirmation in Verona. In the middle there may be discomfort and fights among the militants, the difficulty in holding up an opposition role, after the long and comfortable years spent in the Government, in the shadow of the knight. And in the meantime judicial investigations are going on, from which it seems that even names not necessarily attributable to the family and the magic circle can emerge. But the electoral test does not only concern the League of the triumvirate with Bossi obscured, but also Alfano's PDL with Berlusconi in an equally secluded position. A major political problem has arisen for the Italian right. Towards which the takeover bid of the third pole doesn't even need to be launched at this point. It's already in fact.
