Lega and M5S still divided on prime minister, migrants and infrastructure

Still nothing done between Lega and Cinque Stelle after the new meetings of Di Maio and Salvini at the Quirinale to form the new government: disagreements on the program but above all on the choice of the premier after the vetoes and counter-vetoes on the Sapelli and Conte hypotheses - Or is the square in the next ones or skip all

Lega and M5S still divided on prime minister, migrants and infrastructure

Either the League and the Five Stars find the balance on the new government in the next few hours or skip everything. This is the gist of the new meetings at the Quirinale Luigi Di Maio and Matteo Salvini.

While the leader of the Five Stars emphasized the steps forward in the negotiations on the programme, that of the League instead highlighted the still points of disagreement which mainly concern migrants and the infrastructure, because Salvini wants a squeeze on landings and instead does not want vetoes on the construction of public works deemed essential by the Government.

But, apart from the programme, the real political crux that is delaying the launch of the new government concerns the indication of the premier, after the candidacies of Professor Giulio Sapelli, supported above all by the League, had circulated in the early hours of the morning, and that of the Professor Conte indicated instead by the Five Stars.

Above all, it was the obvious request of Sapelli, who met both Salvini and Di Maio yesterday to whom he had expressed his willingness to run as prime minister, to have freedom of action in the choice of ministers and in particular in that of the minister of Economy to stiffen the Five Stars when Sapelli himself anticipated that, if he were to be chosen as premier, he would like the former minister of the Berlusconi government, Domenico Siniscalco, to return to Via XX Settembre. The real truth is that, behind the vetoes and counter-vetoes on the prime minister candidates, there is Di Maio's never hidden aspiration to be prime minister, despite the dissent expressed even today by Salvini who is instead looking for a third solution. On this point it fell to the Quirinale to lighten the climate by denying that there was a negative ruling on Sapelli's candidacy.

In the next few hours meetings and negotiations will continue but it is not without meaning that Salvini, leaving the Quirinale, wanted to remind Di Maio that he represents not only the League but all the center-right and therefore on the program as on the indication of the premier the Cuinque Stelle they can't pull too far.
