Le Pen: EU Parliament waives immunity

Another trouble for Marine Le Pen. The parliamentarians of the European Union have decided to revoke her parliamentary immunity due to some tweets containing images of violence published in December 2015 on the popular social network which showed three executions carried out at the hands of ISIS, including that of the American journalist James Foley.

The request for waiver of immunity came directly from the Public Prosecutor's Office as part of an investigation in Nanterre. The judges intend to prosecute the Front National presidential candidate for the "dissemination of images of a violent nature capable of causing harm to human dignity", a crime envisaged by the French penal code which can lead to a three-year prison sentence and a fine of 75.000 euros.

The decision concerns only the case in question and not the investigation into the alleged fictitious positions of his assistants in the European Parliament which is causing such a stir in France.
