The Philippines invests in wind power

The Philippine National Grid is preparing to launch a 2,49 billion peso transformation plan for its plants in northern Luzon in view of entering the wind energy business. The Philippine utility has applied to the Energy Regulatory Commission for approval to build a 230-kilovolt Laoag-Bangui transmission line that would allow it to launch wind projects and improve transmission network reliability in the area.

The plan is part of a larger project that seeks to consolidate individual 115-kilovolt connection projects that would affect many potential wind farms in the Ilocos region into a single 230-kV corridor.
According to the Philippine Department of Energy, the northeastern Luzon region has the largest wind power generation potential in the country. The pre-construction phase is expected to start this year with an expected completion in 2016.
