Newsagents? They will also become post offices

Enhance the role of newsagents and guarantee more efficient postal services close to citizens. 'In zona', the project born from the agreement between Nexive, a private postal operator, and the two Italian newsagents' unions, Sinagi and Sinagi, presented at the Milan Press Club, goes in this direction. The initiative, which in three years it aims to involve 12 newsstands throughout the countrywas born with a dual purpose. On the one hand, helping newsagents rethink their business model, developing activities that go beyond the simple distribution of newspapers and magazines; on the other, to innovate the traditional postal service, meeting the needs of users, public administrations and businesses, offering the possibility of sending correspondence and parcels in a more convenient way, thanks to proximity points spread throughout the area and open with more flexible hours , including weekends, simplifying communication, and also supporting the development of a strategic sector such as eCommerce, which exceeded 16 billion euros in the last year.

"Everyone from the outside has realized the value of the newsstand sales network, contrary to the publishing world", said Giuseppe Marchica, SINAGI Secretary General, reiterating how the objective that the newsagent union "sets itself is to enhance the function and role of traditional newsstands" and this type of collaboration "responds to our idea of newsstands as real centers at the service of cities and citizens".

"The publishers have done everything to keep customers away from the sales counter, we aim to do the opposite with this marketing operation," said the president of Snag, Armando Abbiati. “According to an old marketing rule, bringing people into the shop increases the chances of sales”, he summarized, seeing the expansion of the offer as a stimulus for potential readers to buy the editorial products on offer. “This will benefit not only newsagents, but also publishers, who will have more opportunities to make their products known and sold to consumers”.
