Art Basel Miami Conversations: Rooted in Nature (November 30)

In celebration of Art Basel Miami Beach 2020, which was canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Art Basel presents a series of Inspiring Conversations, panel discussions on topics pertaining to the global contemporary art scene. Prominent members of the international art world – artists, gallery owners, curators, collectors, architects, critics and many other cultural figures – each offer unique perspectives on the production, collection and display of art. The conversations are programmed by Edward Winkleman, author and private trader.

Virtual appointment on November 30th to which you can participate at the link below. Leading up to the launch of “OVR: Miami Beach,” this FT Weekend and Art Basel conversation brings together three artists whose practice responds to the natural world in distinct ways. Anne Appleby (Franklin Parrasch Gallery, New York City) creates subtle, seemingly monochromatic paintings that have their roots in a 15-year apprenticeship the painter spent with an Ojibwe elder, learning to observe nature patiently and deeply. Colombian artist Carolina Caycedo (Instituto de Visión, Bogota), is known for her multidisciplinary works that interconnect environmental and social issues. Brazilian photographer Caio Reisewitz (Luciana Brito Galeria, São Paulo) explores the boundaries between the city and wild nature. For 'OVR: Miami Beach', shows Airuaca (2020), in which portraits of iconic architectural monuments of Brasilia are superimposed on green Brazilian forests. The speech will be moderated by Jan Dalley, artistic director of the Financial Times.

Monday 30th November. Hours: 1pm – 2pm (Miami Beach). Click here to register and join the conversation.
