Stock exchanges accelerate, oil rises

In the middle of the day, the Ftse Mib index advanced by more than one percentage point: Campari, Atlantia and FCA stand out in the wake of the automotive sector (the Geneva Motor Show opens today), and energy sources on the rise in oil - Banks are also in positive territory – Spread Btp-Bund down – The other European lists are also up.

All on the rise Bags European countries, thanks to the progress in oil prices. THE PMI data on manufacturing activity are down, but less than expected. In Italy, the estimate stopped at 52,2 points, the lowest for 12 months: another confirmation of the need for new stimuli from the ECB.  

At Piazza Affari the index FtseMib it advances by more than one percentage point, preceded by Frankfurt +1,52% but ahead of Paris +0,57%. London advances by 0,5%. A clash of giants is looming for control of the London Stock Exchange. ICE, the holding company of the New York Stock Exchange and Euronext has announced an offer on the City market to counter its merger with the German Stock Exchange. The LSE share shot up by 7,7%. 

Concern about growth is growing in the debt markets. The XNUMX-year interest rate BTP it fell to 1,38%, the lowest since April, only to then return above 1,40%. The spread with the German Bund slips below 130 bp.

Prominently a Milano Campari +7% sustained by the excellent ones results for the quarter: a strong increase in revenues, accompanied by a stronger-than-expected operating profit. 

The automotive sector stands out, coinciding with the opening of the Geneva Motor Show and the arrival, tonight, of the results of the January sales. The Stoxx index advanced by 2,2%. In line Fiat Chrysler +2%. The energy sector is doing well: Eni gains 1,3%, this morning Barclays raised its recommendation. 

Tenaris is up 2% e Saipem +2,5%. In the meantime, the recovery of oil prices continues: Brent +0,8 to 36,8 dollars (+0,8%) at the highest level in four weeks. Contribute to the latest statements by Saudi Arabian leaders who return to talk about agreements with other oil-producing countries. Saras +5%.

Leap forward also for the title Atlantia +4%, on the wave of the news that the Benettons are looking for a partner willing to acquire a third of the capital of Autostrade per l'Italia, now 100% owned by the holding. Astaldi rises by 4%. Rises in the order of 2% also for the Stoxx indices of companies in the media sector. In Piazza Affari Mediaset is up 3%. Rcs Mediagroup also accelerates +6%.

The banks were also positive: Intesa +1%, Ubi Banca +1,8%, Unicredit +0,5%. Monte Paschi recovers +2% after Monday's crash. Azimuth rises by 2,7%. Banca Mediolanum rises by 0,5%. This morning the company anticipated that in February net inflows will be in the order of 650 million. Generali +1%, Catholic +2,3%.
