The 10 things to avoid in your CV

A Thai website is not the most likely cyber place to find good advice on writing your CV, but these 'ten things to avoid' when writing have been written by a 'headhunter' of Grant Thornton's Thailand branch, and they seem valid for all latitudes.

The first thing to remember is that whoever looks at CVs looks at many and time is precious: the impression of the first twenty seconds of the exam is crucial. So no delays, and a summary of the resumé at the beginning is essential. Then, no photos: there are those who distrust beautiful people and those who distrust ugly people, those who appreciate bald people and those who appreciate hair. When in doubt, refrain from photos. Other useful tips: use Word and not Powerpoint – don't use terms like 'dynamic' or 'visionary' – put your current occupation at the beginning, not elementary school – don't use a generic CV for everyone, but make it tailor-made for each place you aspire to – and so on… The advice is written in English, so you can also brush up on that essential language.
