Lazio, Zingaretti the candidate of the center-left: goodbye to the Campidoglio

The current president of the Province of Rome, who had previously announced his candidacy for the Capitol, accepted the request that arrived yesterday evening from the Democratic Party and the other coalition parties and will run for the governor's seat – "It's not just about winning the elections, but to re-found the regional institution”.

Lazio, Zingaretti the candidate of the center-left: goodbye to the Campidoglio

Nicola Zingaretti will be the centre-left candidate in the next regional elections in Lazio. The current president of the Province of Rome, who had previously announced his candidacy for the Capitol, accepted the request that arrived yesterday evening from the Democratic Party and the other coalition parties: he will not run for the seat of mayor, but for that of governor .

“These are days when everyone changes their mind – Zingaretti began ironically at the press conference -. Lazio is a great national issue, there is now a democratic emergency. We need a revolution of transparency, participation, cleanliness, rigor in the management of public affairs. A revolution that changes everything. It's not just a question of winning the elections, but of re-establishing the regional institution. Enough with the public spending sideshow”.

Zingaretti then promised rigor and sobriety “by myself, my collaborators, the team and the coalition”. His he, he says, will be a "secular, alternative and free coalition, with a strong civic profile, made up of parties and associations and movements". Finally, the hope is that "we vote as soon as possible".

The proposal to nominate Zingaretti to lead the Lazio Region and "the very fact that it was launched by the regional secretary of the Democratic Party, Enrico Gasbarra - commented the party secretary, Pier Luigi Bersani – is the most concrete way of witnessing how politics can promote renewal, guaranteeing skills and experience for leading institutions".

The IDV leader does not overreact, Antonio Di Pietro, who, however, proves possible: “Zingaretti is one of the possible candidates that we look favorably upon, but in respect of the other possible candidates which we are also discussing at the moment and on which the IDV also has proposals to make. I wouldn't close the door to other candidacies, but Zingaretti's is certainly a quality candidacy that makes us responsible for finding a common ground".
