Work USA: requests for subsidies beyond expectations

The number of American workers who are filing for unemployment benefits in the United States for the first time is growing. In fact, last week, initial requests stood at 290 thousand, up by 12 thousand units compared to the previous week. The data is worse than the forecasts of analysts, who had estimated a more contained growth, between 280 and 281 units.

In any case, the level has remained below the threshold of 300 units for nine weeks, the best series since 2000, thus indicating an improving labor market. The average of the last four weeks, considered more reliable as it is less subject to market fluctuations, grew by 6 units to 285.

The total number of workers receiving unemployment benefits for more than a week, on the other hand, grew by 36 to 2,39 million.
