Work, migrants, smog, fight against corruption and terrorism in Mattarella's end-of-year message

The economy is improving but work, especially for young people, remains the first problem: said the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella in his first year-end message to Italians – The migrant emergency and the fight against corruption and terrorism are were the other main themes addressed in the presidential message – Renzi's applause

The Italian economy is improving and will continue to do so in 2016 but work, especially for young people, remains the first problem, even if employment is growing. The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella said it in his first year-end message to the Italians that last night he spoke on TV, as per tradition, to unified networks.

Mattarella carefully avoided political jargon and concentrated on the problems of Italian life, soberly highlighting both the positive and the problematic aspects.

The Head of State leveraged Italian pride by urging them to react to corruption which is a cancer in the life of the country, to tax evasion which is holding back the recovery, to the fear of terrorism, which is and remains a real problem but which must not upset the days of the Italians.

In Mattarella's message, a reference also to the immigration emergency for which the President asked to combine rigor in the examination of asylum requests with a welcoming spirit could not be missing. Words of wisdom also in defense of the environment and in the battle against the smog emergency.

"President Mattarella - commented Prime Minister Matteo Renzi - spoke to the hearts of Italians".
