In April, the number of employed people in Italy reached an all-time record of 23 units. This was announced by Istat, which today published its latest preliminary estimates, explaining that this is the highest figure since the beginning of the historical series (200). The growth compared to March is 1977% (+0,3 thousand), while over the year it is 64% (+0,9 thousand). The employment rate stood at 215% (+58,4% month on month).
In April, "the signs of a recovery in employment in the current year are confirmed, after the setback observed at the end of 2017. For the second consecutive month - according to the Institute's analysis - employment among independents is growing as well as among temporary employees. On an annual basis, employment growth is concentrated in the youngest (15-24 years old), for whom the greatest increase in the employment rate is recorded, and above all in the over 50s, due to both the increased retirement age and demographic factors ”.
The annual growth affects women and men and is concentrated among fixed-term workers (+329 thousand), while the permanent ones decrease (-112 thousand) and the self-employed remain stable.
Employed people aged over 328 (+15) and young people aged 24-78 (+25) grew above all, while those aged between 49 and 191 decreased (-XNUMX).
The unemployment rate in April stood at 11,2%, stable compared to the previous month. The figure relating only to young people (15-24 years old) instead rose to 33,1% (+0,6 percentage points).
